Devon

Big houses on Main Line lots

Almost every house in Devon is a single home, and the typical one dates to the 1940s or earlier. Those roofs are bigger and more cut up than they look from the street, with dormers, valleys and tall chimneys, often under big trees.

The drone lets us see all of it, including the slopes behind the house. On a long driveway we plan where the dumpster goes before the job starts, so it isn't parked on the lawn, and we cover the beds along the house.

Easttown permits

A re-roof has its own permit in Easttown

Easttown, which covers Devon, has a separate re-roofing permit. The application asks for the existing and new sheathing, the rafter spacing, the flashing and the slope, and no more than two layers can be covered.

On a house this age there's often more than one layer up there already. We check the edges, price the tear-off honestly, and photograph the decking once it's bare.

Permits

Chester County townships issue their own permits

In Chester County the permit comes from the township, not the county. Easttown, which covers Devon, has its own re-roofing permit: a $75 application and $300 for a house. We fill in the application and file it with our PA HIC registration.

Usually, if the driveway can take the truck. If it can't, we work out another spot at the estimate, not on the morning of the job.
